Woodman, Ongar

I went to the Woodman with a friend on Monday lunchtime and had a lovely lunch. We both had their fish and chips which was freshly cooked and nicely presented. They have a varied menu with added Specials of the day. This is a traditional old country pub, dated 1674, with an inglenook fireplace. It has a warm atmosphere, just outside Ongar. Well worth a visit

I was pleased with the choice of ale, all available and served ice cold. There was an Eastern European lady supervisor behind the bar who genuinely cared about customer service and ensured that all staff were diligent, as well as offering polite and efficient service herself. The food was more expensive than in other establishments, but the table buzzer service system was good and it was worth paying at bit more to get such a good standard of service which made the visit more relaxed and enjoyable than in other pubs we have been to.

I took my son and daughter there for a family meal we all had a three course meal which was really lovely. The pub itself was really nice and very cosy the staff were really helpful and very polite will definitely go there again.

Went with my husband here on a Friday night and was very quick service with lovely food. We had a starter and portions were generous. Main meal was also very good portions, we both couldn’t finish our mains. Had we known the portion size would of only had a main meal. Very good value for money. Staff lovely. Definitely recommend this restaurant and will be visiting again.
