Just outside Ongar, in a delightfully rural area of Essex, the Woodman is a beautiful old country pub & restaurant, dating from 1674. It is traditionally furnished, oak beamed and has a lovely old inglenook fireplace – and is listed in The Good Pub Guide.
The Woodman pub & restaurant has a spacious and prettily planted garden, with a patio terrace which is popular for al fresco eating.
Families find a warm welcome; there is a great play area for the children, plus a field with goalposts to occupy the older ones. There is ample parking too.
The Woodman’s versatile restaurant has a full and varied menu which also offers different specials to tempt the more adventurous – Moroccan lamb or oriental spiced fish being just two of many. The Sunday lunch roasts are not to be missed.
Your hosts Gina and Colin take care to ensure your visit is an enjoyable one whether it be for a special family celebration, one of our themed entertainment nights, or just a well earned break from the kitchen.
The Woodman hosts live music, beer tasting evenings and much more. Follow us on Facebook for our upcoming events or contact the team to find out more.
Having a party? We can also cater for all sizes of private function, with a private area ideal for small groups up to about 14, and private hire of the whole pub available for larger events.
Check out one of our other pubs, the Green Man in Herongate. A historic pub in Brentwood, the Green Man has centuries of stories to tell.
